Staff Software Engineer

Requirements

• Are tenured backend engineers with experience operating at staff-level scope.
• Have strong knowledge of data governance concepts and practices.
• Are comfortable designing and operating distributed systems in production environments.
• Have strong experience with at least one JVM language (ideally Java) and relational databases.
• Care deeply about reliability, observability, and operational excellence.
• Communicate clearly with engineers and non-engineers.
• Value mentorship, feedback, and inclusion.

Nice to have

• Experience in security, compliance, risk, or privacy domains.
• Background building data or reporting platforms.
• Experience with Kafka, event-driven architectures, or large-scale data processing.
• Prior work with auditors, risk, or GRC teams.

What you'll be doing

• Lead design and implementation of services that catalog PII and enforce data protection standards.
• Design and evolve distributed systems to detect PII usage and orchestrate privacy-related actions.
• Own reliability and on-call for the services you help build.
• Collaborate with Privacy, Legal, and Security teams to translate data protection requirements into technical solutions.
• Drive technical roadmaps for managing and protecting personal data.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, pairing, and feedback.
