Intermediate Site Reliability Engineer, Datastores : Database Reliability

Requirements:

• Strong engineering experience deploying, managing and scaling PostgreSQL in large and dynamic production SaaS environments
• In-depth understanding of PostgreSQL internals, including architecture, storage, indexing, and query optimization
• Experience operating PostgreSQL databases in a containerized environment using Kubernetes and modern operators
• Understanding of Kubernetes architecture and experience with Kubernetes clusters in production
• Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code practices
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools for database and container orchestration environments
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
• Proactive, go-for-it attitude
• Strong programming skills as a (former) backend engineer - Preferably with Ruby and/or Go

What You'll Be Doing:

• Work on database reliability and performance aspects for GitLab.com
• Analyze solutions and implement best practices for PostgreSQL database cluster
• Collaborate with peer SREs to roll out changes and mitigate incidents
• Provide database expertise to engineering teams
• Automate database infrastructure and provide self-service tools
• Plan and build core database infrastructure for scalability
• Support and debug production database issues
• Document actions for repeatability and automation
