Staff Technical Lead Health Features, Backend, Data Infrastructure

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on data infrastructure or backend systems.
• 5 years of experience managing a team of software engineers and guiding system architecture and design.
• Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale, distributed backend systems.

Nice to haves:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Experience with large-scale cluster management and container orchestration, particularly Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with data privacy and security principles, and with standards like HIPAA.
• Familiarity with wearables/IoT devices, their technical capabilities and limitations.
• Familiarity with database technologies and principles (e.g., Spanner, BigQuery, SQL/NoSQL, and with data processing frameworks (e.g., Flume, Beam, Spark).

What you'll be doing:

• Lead and mentor a talented team of software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and impact. Apply experience in coding and innovation with AI to increase velocity and ensure code health.
• Define and drive the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for Google Health's feature and data ingestion. Balance priorities, and make technical trade-offs.
• Ensure the systems meet stringent requirements for security, privacy, compliance (e.g., HIPAA), scalability, and reliability, given the sensitive nature of health data.
• Oversee the entire software development lifecycle of the team's services. Collaborate closely with product management, research, and other engineering teams. Advocate best practices in software development, data engineering, and productization of backend services.
• Comply with all company health and safety policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
