Staff Software Engineer - Databases, Tempo | Spain | Remote

Requirements:

• Technical leadership experience leading complex initiatives
• Deep systems experience with distributed data systems
• Strong software craftsmanship with clean and performant code
• Experience in Go or other systems languages (e.g., Rust, C, C++)
• Operational mindset with a focus on SLOs and reducing toil
• Customer-focused and pragmatic problem-solving skills
• Experience working in a fully remote, globally distributed team

What You'll Be Doing:

• Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives
• Own the architecture of core Tempo components
• Design APIs for humans and agents
• Drive operational excellence and ownership of outcomes
• Collaborate with Product and sibling teams
• Mentor engineers and contribute to open source
• Participate in on-call responsibilities

Nice to Haves:

• Experience with tracing or large-scale observability systems
• Experience designing query languages or APIs consumed programmatically
• Knowledge of columnar storage formats or analytical workloads
• Experience operating multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure on Kubernetes
• Experience building for AI/LLM consumers and open-source contributions
