Staff Software Engineer, Server Networking Security (Rust)

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building production-quality systems software with robust design structure and rigorous code quality
• Experience with large backend/compiled codebases and performance-sensitive software, preferably in Rust
• Bonus points for experience in security-sensitive or networking-adjacent domains
• Strong systems fundamentals, including multi-threaded programming and performance profiling
• Understanding of network protocols, TLS, and connection lifecycle management
• Familiarity with security concepts such as attack surface reduction, input validation, memory safety, and defense-in-depth architectures
• Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills
• Strong mentorship skills and excitement about coaching and enabling teammates
• Strong time management skills and realistic project complexity assessment
• B.Sc. in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Passion for learning in computer science and software engineering domains

What You'll Be Doing

• Define and drive the technical strategy for Ingress Security
• Design, implement, and operate production-ready security services in Rust
• Collaborate on roadmaps to improve MongoDB's ingress security
• Handle time-sensitive escalations and production incidents
• Interview candidates for software engineering positions
• Keep abreast of cutting-edge research in systems security and network security

Success Measures

• In the first month: Understand the architecture of the Atlas Network Protection layer
• In three months: Contribute substantially to Rust development
• In six months: Lead the development of a major new feature
• In twelve months: Drive major improvements to security, availability, performance, or operational capabilities
