Senior Java Engineer

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend software development experience
• Proficiency in Java and a strong understanding of the JVM
• Experience working with Postgres or similar relational databases
• Experience with CI/CD, observability, performance analysis, and incident response
• Ability to lead ambiguous technical initiatives involving multiple teams
• Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems
• A product-oriented approach to software development
• Willingness to operate, deploy, and troubleshoot applications in a live production environment

Bonus points for

• Experience with large-scale, multi-region, or mission-critical systems
• Knowledge of authentication, authorization, encryption, and other security practices
• Experience building internal platforms focused on developer autonomy
• Experience leading platform migrations or driving adoption across a large engineering organization

What you'll be doing

• Lead the design and delivery of foundational services used by engineering teams across Adyen
• Drive complex, cross-team initiatives from problem discovery through production adoption
• Partner with product managers and engineers to identify shared platform needs and define priorities
• Design and evolve APIs, including compatibility, migration, and adoption strategies
• Architect resilient solutions spanning multiple data centers
• Own the deployment, observability, operation, and continuous improvement of live services
• Gather and use developer feedback to improve the reliability, usability, and adoption of platform services
• Mentor engineers and raise technical standards within the team
