Backend Engineer - Personalization

Requirements

• Experienced in building and operating backend services in Java or a JVM language within a microservice architecture
• Think in systems, reason about service contracts, failure modes, and architectural tradeoffs
• Fluent with AI-assisted development and tools like Claude Code
• Product-oriented with an understanding of user problems and backend change impact on user engagement
• Set up guardrails for safety, design test suites, and code conventions
• Practical experience with system design and tradeoffs in latency, reliability, scalability
• Care about production ownership, including on-call responsibilities
• Comfortable with ambiguity and figuring out best practices

What You'll Be Doing

• Own backend systems for personalized content on the Now Playing View
• Work in an AI-native development workflow
• Collaborate with ML engineers to bring models to production
• Make product-informed backend decisions
• Design patterns, tests, and guardrails for code consistency
• Run and analyze A/B experiments
• Own production reliability and collaborate with cross-functional teams

• We offer flexibility to work within the European region
• Operates within the GMT/CET time zone
• Excluding France due to on-call restrictions
