Requirements

15+ years of experience in software engineering, including technical leadership across multiple organizations or 80+ engineers.
Strong technical leadership with significant experience designing, building, and shipping enterprise-grade solutions.
Deep proficiency in Java or another JVM-based language (e.g., Kotlin); working knowledge of OSGi is a bonus.
Experience designing and building broadly used, scalable platforms and platform components.
Proven track record of influencing company technical direction and educating the broader organization.
Passion for software engineering excellence, providing technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship.
Experience identifying, raising, and reconciling gaps and redundant efforts across organizations.
Ability to develop clear technical solutions and align multiple engineering teams and leaders.
Bias for action: lead by example and influence through hands-on technical work.

Nice to Haves

Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
In-depth knowledge of public cloud, especially running self-managed software on cloud infrastructure (e.g., Kubernetes, AWS, Azure).
Experience with large-scale distributed systems, data and storage technologies, security and reliability, encryption or cryptography.
Experience leading engineers through large, complex projects involving major technology stack changes.

Set the long-term technical strategy for Data Center, ensuring security and supportability for every customer.
Lead AI initiatives to transform building and maintaining Data Center, including automated migrations and upgrades.
Own key cross-team architectural decisions and be accountable for outcomes.
Integrate Data Center and Cloud through shared data, telemetry, and platform services, aiding customers in cloud adoption.
Drive architecture for migration-readiness capabilities to help customers move to Cloud smoothly.
Design sustainable security and maintenance models for rapid and safe customer fixes.
Shape platform and API decisions impacting the Marketplace ecosystem and partner on compatibility tooling.
Set engineering excellence standards in design, architecture, code, and development practices.
Mentor and coach engineers and managers, fostering growth in Cloud and AI skills.
Act as a trusted advisor to Heads of Engineering within Team Enterprise and across Atlassian.
Represent Team Enterprise internally at Atlassian and externally across the industry.
