Experience owning a database, storage engine, transaction system, or similar correctness-sensitive stateful system from architecture through production.
Understanding of query execution, indexing, transaction processing, and durable state impacts on developers and operators.
Knowledge of concurrency control, isolation, replication, snapshots, consistency, durability, and recovery in distributed systems.
Proficiency in writing and debugging concurrent production software in Rust, Go, C++, or similar systems languages.
Experience operating stateful systems during rollouts, scaling, incidents, and recovery.
Ability to lead multi-team failure investigations crossing system boundaries.
Nice to Haves
Experience working with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Amazon Aurora, or other relational database internals, tracing SQL operations end-to-end.
Work on transaction processing or concurrency control including snapshot visibility and recovery behavior.
Profiling database workloads and diagnosing performance bottlenecks across query execution and durable storage.
Use of deterministic simulation or systematic methods to find distributed systems bugs that conventional tests miss.
What You'll Be Doing
Improving query planning and execution including index selection, row reads/writes, and adapting to changing data volumes and access patterns.
Building transaction and storage paths that ensure durable writes and consistent reads, defining visibility and commit durability.
Designing deterministic simulations to reproduce rare event orderings and failures.
Planning and executing stateful upgrades through staged rollout, failover, and recovery without risking existing data.
Participating in on-call rotation and incident response.
Owning major changes from design through production and coordinating cross-team implementations.
Mentoring engineers on concurrency, durability, and recovery through design reviews and incident analysis.
