Requirements

• Proven experience leading and developing high-performing engineering teams.
• Technical credibility to review designs, understand trade-offs in distributed systems or payment platforms.
• Comfort managing teams across related technical areas like digital wallets, payment protocols, and web authorization.
• Strong focus on reliability and quality, especially in systems handling monetary transactions or machine authorization.
• Strong product judgment and collaboration with Product Management.
• Ability to communicate clearly, give direct feedback, and explain technical decisions to varied audiences.
• Comfort with ambiguity and ability to find structure in evolving opportunities.

Nice to Haves

• Strong technical background in distributed systems, low-latency transaction processing, API design, or web security.
• Experience with traditional payment rails, digital wallets, and open authorization/authentication standards (OAuth, WebAuthn, Web Bot Auth).
• Experience building or operating reliable and secure products where correctness matters as much as delivery.
• Track record of hiring, developing, and retaining engineers.
• Experience working closely with Product Management on roadmaps and execution.
• Familiarity with emerging agentic payment protocols (x402, AP2, ACP, UCP).
• Experience building hybrid fiat/crypto payment infrastructure.
• Familiarity with Cloudflare’s developer platform or edge computing architectures.
• Experience with usage-based billing, metering engines, or complex commercial pricing models.

What you'll be doing

• Manage, coach, and grow engineering teams working on payment pipelines, agent authentication, and commerce architecture.
• Set clear priorities and create predictable delivery processes while empowering engineers.
• Lead development of agentic payment systems using emerging open standards to enable low-latency micropayments.
• Lead engineering for usage metering, pricing engines, outcome verification, and revenue attribution models.
• Build tools that give businesses granular control and visibility over agent-generated revenue streams.
• Partner with Product Management to understand customer needs and translate opportunities into engineering outcomes.
• Bridge mainstream and decentralized technologies, interfacing with blockchain teams while focusing on high-throughput web and fiat commerce.
• Balance product delivery with strategic technical investments for growth.
• Ensure operational health including observability, incident response, cryptographic security, and system reliability.
• Develop technical leaders and encourage engineering ownership of architecture and implementation.
