What you’ll be doing

Drive the technical strategy and execution for Stripe Tax’s key product and platform investments from early exploration to production adoption
Analyze global business needs and evolving tax regulations to identify high-leverage opportunities shaping the product roadmap
Collaborate with engineering, product, design, operations, legal, go-to-market, and infrastructure leaders to deliver cohesive tax experiences
Design scalable, resilient systems and data models meeting high standards for correctness, auditability, security, and availability
Ensure interoperability across Stripe products and external tax ecosystems by managing service boundaries, interfaces, and data contracts
Provide hands-on technical leadership, decision-making frameworks, operational excellence, and mentorship to accelerate engineering performance

Requirements

10+ years of software engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems
Deep engineering expertise with proven architectural decision-making while remaining hands-on in code
Proven leadership of complex, multi-team technical programs from ambiguous definition through delivery and adoption
Ability to set long-term technical direction and prioritize high-leverage investments amid uncertainty
Exceptional communication and influence skills to align senior technical, product, and business stakeholders without formal authority
Commitment to mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of rigorous, inclusive, and data-informed decision making

Experience in tax, financial technology, payments, accounting, financial reporting, or regulated domains with high correctness requirements
Experience working directly with large enterprise customers to translate complex requirements into durable platform capabilities
Experience designing robust integrations with external systems and APIs or leading platform work spanning backend services, data, and user experiences
