Requirements

Hands-on experience building or making substantial contributions to large-scale distributed systems.
Strong backend engineering experience, including relational databases, event-driven systems and proficiency in an object-oriented language.
A product mindset: ability to explain customer problems, why solutions matter, and assess their impact.
Ability to take ownership with high autonomy, make progress through ambiguity, and involve experts when needed.
Strong collaboration and communication skills to explain technical decisions and work across teams.
Curiosity about the business domain and willingness to learn how partners use the products.

Nice to haves

Experience with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka or PostgreSQL.
Knowledge in payments, financial technology, funding, settlement or foreign exchange.
Using product metrics and data to understand customer behaviour and guide decisions.

Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable services in Java and Spring Boot within a microservices architecture.
Apply domain-driven design to build robust, scalable solutions.
Lead development efforts in event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging systems.
Architect, design, and optimize relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) for performance and scalability.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support partner integrations and expand the Wise payment platform globally.
Participate in code reviews, champion best coding practices, and mentor junior engineers.
Own solutions end-to-end from problem to production, including design, build, test, and operation.
Make thoughtful technical decisions balancing delivery time, reliability, and maintainability.
Work across system boundaries to ensure clear interfaces and understand impacts on the payment journey.
Improve systems by strengthening testing, observability, diagnosing production issues, and increasing dependability.
Contribute to team success through sharing knowledge, reviews, pairing, and mentoring.
