What you'll be doing

Lead the team building and maintaining a Generative AI platform to enable rapid experimentation and production deployment across Wise.
Provide tooling, guidance, and guardrails to ensure customer and data safety.
Guide sustainable growth of the AI enablement and controls function, leading other engineering leads and shaping multiple teams.
Focus on reliability, security, operational excellence, and maintaining high availability of cloud-based services.
Run and maintain services and libraries with proper observability and service management.
Problem-solve and guide engineering teams through project delivery using agile and traditional methodologies.
Take ownership of vendor negotiations and explain costs to the business.
Engage in continuous feedback culture, both giving and receiving regular feedback.

Requirements

Solid engineering background in Python with experience in production deployment and maintenance.
High coding standards including test coverage best practices and writing scalable, clean code.
Experience deploying microservices to cloud-based systems.
Knowledge of designing and implementing distributed and concurrent systems with awareness of architectural tradeoffs.
Experience with large language models (LLMs) and building LLM-based applications.
Familiarity with agentic frameworks and designing agentic-based workflows.
Experience collaborating with product teams to bring ideas into production.
Strong communication skills, ability to mentor junior engineers, and seek feedback.
Customer-centric mindset with empathy driving decision-making.
Self-starter with initiative, problem-solving capability, and collaborative work style.

Engineering experience in Typescript/Javascript, including building performant UIs or using TS/JS AI frameworks.
Familiarity with Java stack including Spring Boot.
Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Security and privacy advocacy with knowledge of principles like least privilege.
Experience with Terraform, GitHub Actions, Infrastructure as Code, and AWS or other cloud ecosystems.
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and running containerized workloads.
Knowledge of Semantic Search and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) based workflows.
Knowledge or experience with MCP servers.
Interest in payment platforms, foreign exchange, and complex systems architecture.
