Software Engineer, R2 Gateway

Requirements

• Experience in Rust, TypeScript, Go, or similar languages
• Background in building large-scale distributed systems with latency and reliability requirements
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure concepts such as object storage, API gateways, edge computing
• Experience designing high-throughput APIs and API evolution
• Understanding of reliability practices, monitoring, and incident response
• Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across teams
• Comfortable with AI coding tools as part of daily workflow

Nice to Haves

• Experience with S3 API surface, Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects, or edge computing platforms

What You'll Be Doing

• Designing, implementing, and operating the S3-compatible API gateway
• Building and operating production services on Cloudflare Workers and Kubernetes
• Owning the request path end to end, including authentication, routing, rate limiting, and error handling
• Leading projects from design to deployment and production monitoring
• Improving reliability, performance, and observability of the gateway
• Participating in on-call rotations, incident resolution, and postmortems
• Collaborating with other teams on cross-cutting initiatives
