What you'll be doing

Designing, profiling, and implementing core database features including storage formats, index structures, and recovery paths
Diagnosing concurrency bugs, race conditions, and lock contention
Performance engineering by profiling CPU, memory allocation, off-heap memory, and disk I/O to improve latency
Reviewing designs and pull requests with a focus on correctness, data integrity, and maintainability
Helping decide technical direction and architectural trade-offs as the database engine evolves

Requirements

Experience with systems programming, comfortable working close to hardware
Strong understanding of concurrency concepts such as threads, locks, atomic operations, and cache locality
Knowledge of data structures and algorithmic complexity
Pragmatic approach to engineering with thorough testing to handle edge cases in database kernels
Collaborative attitude with openness to technical discussions and feedback backed by data or benchmarks

Prior experience with database internals, storage engines, or file systems
Deep knowledge of JVM internals including GC behavior, JIT compilation, and off-heap memory
Hands-on experience with profiling tools such as async-profiler, JFR, or perf
