Requirements

5+ years of professional backend software development experience in Kotlin, Java, or another object-oriented language
Strong instincts around testing and code quality
Experience building RESTful APIs and fault-tolerant, highly-scalable, secure distributed systems
Proficiency with SQL/NoSQL databases and understanding of distributed datastores
Familiarity with distributed systems concepts, asynchronous messaging (Kafka, Pulsar, or AWS SQS/SNS), and AWS cloud platforms
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Curiosity to learn restaurant domain workflows and enthusiasm for agile, cross-functional team collaboration
Demonstrated humility, empathy, and respectfulness
This is a hybrid role requiring two days per week in the office

Experience designing platform APIs that other teams depend on (platform thinking)
Comfort with document-based or columnar data stores

Designing, building, deploying, and maintaining scalable backend microservices and RESTful APIs using Java/Kotlin and AWS
Leading complex projects that span multiple teams and systems
Championing best practices such as automated testing and phased rollouts for zero-regression releases and high test coverage
Monitoring service health, analyzing logs and metrics (Datadog/CloudWatch), and participating in on-call rotations
Collaborating with peer engineers for design feedback and code reviews
Working with Product Managers and UX teams on new features and products
Mentoring and coaching peer engineers
