What you'll be doing

• Designing, developing, and maintaining the team’s services in a hands-on role.
• Mentoring and supporting a small team of engineers in their growth and development.
• Supporting the team in technical decisions to ensure building a reliable and scalable high-quality product.
• Working closely with a Product Manager to own and drive the team’s direction and product plans.
• Collaborating with teams across Wise to deliver real impact and expand platform functionality for partners.
• Owning the team’s services and product while promoting best practices and high-quality outputs.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading and mentoring high-performing engineering teams.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java or similar technology stacks.
• Deep understanding of microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Product mindset focused on customer impact beyond technical implementation.
• Strong experience designing and optimizing relational databases.
• Following and advocating best coding practices, continuous delivery, and code reviews.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly across teams and stakeholders.
