What You'll Be Doing

• Contributing to large, impactful projects evolving core Elasticsearch infrastructure.
• Enhancing developer productivity through automation and integrating agentic apps into workflows.
• Designing and implementing new horizontally-scalable features and APIs.
• Solving complex issues including performance and concurrency problems.
• Improving operation and observability of Elasticsearch cloud systems.
• Collaborating openly with Elasticsearch team, users, and supporting open source projects.
• Supporting support engineers with challenging problems.
• Owning operational investigations from end to end to resolve performance or stability issues.

Requirements

• Experience in crafting APIs with ability to evaluate tradeoffs.
• Proficiency in algorithms and data structures.
• Strong skills in core Java, including concurrency, parallelism, classloaders, and new language features.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems and practices (e.g., Buildkite, Argo CD, GitOps).
• Experience leading large scale projects across engineering teams.
• Ability and willingness to dive into new issues and ask for help.
• Capability to own projects end-to-end including technical design and collaboration.
• Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while owning outcomes.
• Strong collaboration skills across functions and teams with smooth transition between projects and codebases.
• Ability to work autonomously and drive decisions and results in a distributed team with clear communication.

Nice to Haves

• Knowledge of JDK internals: modules, Java memory model, garbage collection, database load, caching techniques.
• Experience with observability and telemetry solutions, especially OpenTelemetry.
• Knowledge of Go programming language.
• Familiarity with containers and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Java build tools, preferably Gradle.
• Experience working in platform teams or developer productivity teams.
