What You Will Be Doing

Designing, building, and operating core parts of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering with a focus on distributed systems expertise.
Enhancing components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
Maintaining cluster coordination to ensure performance stability despite node changes and data movement.
Extending Elasticsearch's capabilities to handle more shards, nodes, and petabytes.
Investigating performance and concurrency issues and proposing effective solutions.
Supporting support engineers with complex problems.
Managing operational investigations end-to-end to resolve performance or stability issues.

Requirements

Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
Strong skills in core Java, including data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer language features.
High technical proficiency in algorithms.
Experience building large-scale distributed systems from the ground up.
Proven experience debugging and building complex features impacting multiple machines.
Ability to own projects from design through development and delivery.
Experience managing projects involving multiple engineers.
Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debugging, and code optimization while maintaining ownership of outcomes.
Strong collaboration skills across teams and flexible project management based on business priorities.
Ability to work autonomously and communicate effectively in a distributed team environment.
