What you'll be doing

• Develop secure, well-tested, performant features and improvements using Ruby and GraphQL.
• Work through complex requirements and legacy constraints to deliver clear solutions while protecting system reliability.
• Design and maintain backend services, APIs, data models, and business logic controlling repository code access and verification.
• Build on Gitaly primitives and collaborate closely with the Gitaly team.
• Triage and fix bugs and support requests related to the team's features.
• Collaborate across functions and teams, involving domain experts when beneficial.
• Use AI agents for scoped tasks to speed delivery while critically reviewing their output.
• Write maintainable code following GitLab's standards and contribute to constructive code reviews.
• Enhance reliability by monitoring production metrics, participating in on-call rotations, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and improving observability and resiliency.
• Share knowledge via code reviews, documentation, and collaboration while learning from others.

Requirements

• Professional experience building backend web applications, services, or APIs using Ruby and GraphQL.
• Understanding of relational databases, SQL, data modeling, caching, background processing, and backend performance optimization.
• Experience contributing to user-facing workflows and maintaining underlying systems.
• Experience writing backend unit and integration tests, familiarity with testing pyramid, Git, and collaborative code review.
• Experience using AI coding agents and reviewing their output, or interest in developing these skills in a complex monorepo.
• Clear written and spoken English communication skills, suitable for remote asynchronous environments.
• Ability to manage priorities, handle ambiguity, take ownership, and seek guidance as needed.
