Engineering management in Europe covers first-line Engineering Manager roles through Director, Head of Engineering, and VP Engineering positions. Most companies expect engineering managers to have several years of hands-on engineering experience before moving into management, and many roles still involve architecture reviews, technical strategy, and occasional coding. Engineering managers in Western Europe typically earn between €110,000 and €180,000 in base salary, with Directors and VPs going well beyond that — total compensation at US tech companies with European offices often includes significant equity. Amazon calls the role Software Development Manager, Microsoft and Meta use Software Engineering Manager, and most European scale-ups use Engineering Manager. Team sizes at the EM level usually range from five to ten engineers. Product managers, program managers, and other non-engineering management roles are not listed on this board.
Trusted by engineers across Europe
Recently came across a neat site called NextLevelJobs.eu: which collects dev openings at "top tier" companies in the EU that offer top of the market (I'd call these Tier 2/3 in the trimodal model). It crawls these jobs at those companies and surfaces new listings.
I take a look at nextleveljobs.eu every once in a while, and I like how simple and straightforward it is.

NextLevelJobs has been really useful for me. I was able to find, and land a new gig at a really respected company through it, and I can't wait to start. Ever since I have been recommending friends in similar positions to sign up if they're looking for their next great EU job.
I love how clean and straightforward nextleveljobs.eu is. It's a breath of fresh air compared to other job boards that are cluttered and overwhelming. Focusing specifically on tech positions is a huge plus for me, and the filters are incredibly helpful. I can find the perfect job in seconds. Plus, the team behind it is always open to feedback, which shows they truly care about the user experience.

Instead, our visa sponsorship guides list companies per country that are known to sponsor visas, together with their open roles on the board. Always confirm sponsorship with the employer before you apply.
